Graphical Login and unlock

As we all strive for faster boots and more secure computing environments could we not intergrate the two?

How about a login prompt just after the kernel loads. This could prompt you for a password to unlock the main partitions while the kernel gets on with loading all the relevent drivers for the system. Then when you have logged in correctly it unencrypts the drive and takes you straight to your desktop using the same password.
