I think the title says it all!
I have setup freenx at home and using the nxclient at work I can start up applications from my server at home and they just appear on my screen at work. Scrolling a large webpage in firefox is almost as fast as a local app, with very little bandwidth used. Initially loading a page takes a little longer but as soon as the images are uploaded then you are off. Cut and paste just works. All this is done over a single encrypted ssh connection.
Next off is to try sharing printers, I think this should allow me to print to a local printer here using the home applications!
How to put it all together on a Debian box.
Add the following to your /etc/apt/sources.list file
deb http://kanotix.com/files/debian ./
run the following
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install freenx
and that’s the server side done.
Now download the client from NoMachine for your relevant platform. Fill in the info for your host. In the dekstop section choose Unix and then choose either Gnome or KDE for full screen or choose custom for single window. In the custom settings put in something like /usr/bin/gnome-terminal as a test, then select floating window and you will get a single window transferred.
All nice and simple.
