Brancusi Photographs Brancusi
Stopped off at the library today to have a look at the view from the top floor and while I was there decided to pick a book at random. Brancusi Photographs Brancusi.
Brancusi was a sculptor who was born in Romania in 1876 and then moved to Paris. When he started his work he took only a few photos but as he developed his ideas he would use the photos and the light to experiment with the way a piece was progressing. Almost carving with the light and shadows before doing the physical work. Later in his life he spent most of his time with the camera experimenting with light and arrangement of his works in his studio in Paris. He was very particular about how his art was represented and would have people stand in the right place and with the right light and situation to appreciate it. He was also not keen on other photographing his work because he believed that how you saw the piece was part of the art.
Brancusi Photographs Brancusi shows a selection of the photos that he took of his sculptures and some of himself and so reflects the way that he would have wanted you to see the things.
